El Escambray: Cuando Antiguos Rebeldes Volvieron a Tomar Las Armas | Enrique Encinosa
In this episode, historian Enrique Encinosa analyzes the events that led to the emergence of the struggle in the Escambray Mountains after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. He explains how many members of the Rebel Army and the Second Front were marginalized after Fidel Castro came to power and how the executions, along with the communist direction taken by the new government, led numerous combatants and peasants to take up arms again. During the conversation, he also addresses the testimony of Agapito Rivera, who summarized the reasons of many peasants by stating that Castroism had “stolen their hope of one day owning something,” referring to property and the fruits of their labor. In addition, Enrique Encinosa discusses his historical research method, the importance of documentary rigor, the case of Manuel Ascunce Domenech, the literacy campaign in Cuba, and several of the books he has dedicated to the history of the resistance in the Escambray Mountains. A conversation to understand one of the most debated chapters in Cuban history from the perspective of a researcher specializing in the subject. #Cuba #Escambray #EnriqueEncinosa #HistoryOfCuba #CubanRevolution #AntiCastro #Guerrilla #Communism #FidelCastro
