Orchard Kids // Mark 9:30-37 Jesus and the "Me First" Mindset
In today's lesson, Jesus shares with the disciples the plan that is in place for Him. He is going to die and then come back to life. The disciples hear the news, but still don't understand. On the way to Capernaum, the disciples argue about who the greatest disciple is. When they arrive, Jesus brings them into a house and tells them “If you want to be first, you must be the very last. You must be the servant of everyone.” What did Jesus mean? How could someone be first and last at the same time? Jesus wanted His disciples to know how to become great. Jesus said they needed to be a servant. A servant does things for other people. Jesus showed us an amazing example of what a true servant looks like. When He died on the cross, He was thinking of us, not Himself.
