The Best & Safest Heater For Vanlife - Olympian Wave 3 Propane Safety Heater

Over the years, I have tried out several different types of heaters in my van but the Olympian Wave heater has been the best and safest heater. These Olympian Wave heaters are often confused with the Mr. Heater Buddy propane heaters, which is unfortunate. The two heaters are vastly different and have different use cases. The Olympian Wave heaters do not use any electricity to operate. They only require propane. And the Wave heaters are very efficient as well. Running on Low, they consume about 1 pound of propane every eight hours. I am often asked why I don’t use an electric heater. The answer is simple, electric heaters use a lot of electricity, more electricity than my solar power system generates in a day. I would need at minimum, two more batteries and several more solar panels to recharge those batteries. It’s not a viable option especially since I spend most of my time in the Pacific Northwest where there is minimal solar in the winter months. If the Olympian Wave heaters are out of your price range, there is a budget Catalytic Heater option. You can search for the Flame King Portable Catalytic Heater model# YSN-AD03. If you are in Canada, there is a similar heater marketed under the Martin brand. While I don’t have any personal experience with these heaters, they are a true catalytic heater which will mean that they are a safer and more efficient option versus a Mr. Buddy Heater.
