July 14, 2018 - The Meters receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

JULY 14 - On this day in 2018, New Orleans funk legends, The Meters received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy’s. Keith Richards introduced the band. Arranger-singer-keyboard player Greg Phillinganes presented the award and filled in for the then-ailing Art Neville on keyboards and vocals. In addition to Phillinganes, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli and Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste performed and spoke upon receiving their awards. Art Neville's son, Ian (current guitarist for Dumpstaphunk and Dr. Klaw, and one-time guitarist for the funky METERS and the Neville Brothers) accepted the award on his father's behalf.
