SD9 and Fall Colors on the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad

On October 11th, 2024, a friend and I ventured into northern Wisconsin as well as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to chase the Escanaba & Lake Superior and their recently reactivated EMD SD9. ELS #1221, which began life in 1955 for Reserve Mining, was brought out of storage in August 2024 to replace a unit that had recently encountered engine problems. Unfortunately, the #1221 was restricted from leading during our visit due to a broken speedometer, but it was still cool seeing the nearly 70 year old locomotive out on the road. After watching the #1221 and SD40-2 #502 switch around Crivitz, we followed the train north through Wausaukee and Amberg on former Milwaukee Road trackage. For our final shot of the day, we found ourselves situated along the banks of the Menominee River to catch the train crossing the Kingsford rail bridge at sunset! ————————————————————————— Thanks for watching!
