While tracks like "One Step Beyond" by Madness, "On My Radio" by The Selecter and even "Gangsters" or "Too Much Too Young" existed within the two tone genre, "Ghost Town" remains the most important. The band's legacy is audible in artists as diverse as Massive Attack, The Streets, Operation Ivy and Lily Allen, but with their second number one single the Specials managed to capture the malaise of the British public, the strain of unemployment and the tensions of cultural unrest.
