Gospel of the day Monday, July 6, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by    / @frastefano   Liturgy of the Word today, from the Gospel according to Matthew Glory to you, O Lord Mt 9:18-26 While Jesus was speaking, a ruler came and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died; but come, lay your hand on her, and she will live." Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. And behold, a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, for she said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be made well." Jesus turned and saw her and said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that moment. When Jesus arrived at the official's house and saw the flute players and the commotion, he said, "Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping." And they mocked him. But after the crowd had been driven away, he went in and took her hand, and the girl arose. And this news spread throughout that region. The Word of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ There are moments in life when death seems like a door closed forever. Jesus, however, before the dead girl, says a surprising phrase: "She is not dead, but sleeping." Not because he doesn't know the pain of that family, but because for him, death is not the end, it is not a passage to nothingness. For us, death appears as an end. For Christ, it is a sleep from which the Father will awaken us. As a mother gently wakes her sleeping child, so God does not forget any of his children. Jesus enters the room of pain, takes that girl by the hand, and raises her up. It is the sign of what he will do with each of us. This doesn't erase the pain of separation. The tears remain real. But it changes the hope with which we look to those we loved and now no longer see. In Christ, no life ends in nothingness. No love ever experienced is lost. And so, even when the fear of death touches us, we can remember that for those who trust in God, the night is not eternal. There is a morning prepared for us. There is a voice that will one day call our name again. And perhaps faith is precisely this: learning to live each day knowing that our story is not heading toward darkness, but toward awakening.
