Flying the "Pocket Fire" in Arizona
It's been windy in Flagstaff so flying out of our 7015' elevation mountain airport has been tough. Add to that the Pocket Fire just south of town, north of Sedona in the Oak Creek Canyon and rugged West Fork area. Plus there's a temporary flight restriction (TFR) just about at the end of the runway and the airport is closing daily at 9am to accommodate fire fighting efforts. This all adds up to limited flight time. But my son Owen and I got up at 5AM and got out there early with views of the smoke and its impact on Northern Arizona. Shout out to the thousand plus firefighters fighting the 25,000+ acre blaze and the pilots dropping slurry. Good flight, winds kicked up of course towards the later part but always good to get up and keep in practice.
