We explore the 9 circles, the contrapasso (punishment that reflects the sin), and why Dante considers betrayal worse than murder. Dante wrote this allegorical epic poem in 1320 as a spiritual journey and political revenge. He placed his enemies in Hell. He condemned corrupt popes.
