Half of NZ’s Pacific children often or sometimes going without food, report finds | Stuff.co.nz
The Salvation Army says New Zealanders are worse off than they were a year ago as food and housing have become increasingly difficult to afford. The charity released its State of the Nation Report for 2025, which found that a record number of people are receiving a benefit, with more than 400,000 reporting a need for welfare support in December last year. The number of children hospitalised from family violence and neglect in 2024 was the highest it’s been in 10 years. Food insecurity among families has increased, and they found half of all Pacific children often or sometimes go without food.
