The unemployment rate has dipped slightly to 5.3 percent for the first quarter of this year down from 5.4. But a breakdown of the data reveals certain regions are struggling, with Auckland and Wellington both seeing their highest unemployment rates in over a decade. The job figures are retrospective and don't reflect the full economic effects of the Middle East war that started at the beginning of March. The Reserve Bank Governor has warned "we are now likely to see a somewhat slower recovery, affecting job growth and debt servicing".
