Trolling Crankbaits for Crappie: They Wanted It Fast!

The crappie bite was far from easy on this Kentucky Lake fishing trip. We spent the day trolling crankbaits, changing colors, experimenting with different bait styles, and adjusting trolling speeds in an effort to figure out what these fish wanted. Some days the pattern jumps out at you, and some days you have to earn every fish. This was one of those days. After covering water and making adjustment after adjustment, we finally discovered the key to getting consistent bites. The crappie were suspended in open water and wanted a much faster presentation than we expected. Once we dialed in the speed, the action picked up and we were able to put together a great mess of fish. If you're trolling crankbaits for crappie and the fish aren't cooperating, don't be afraid to experiment with your presentation. A small change in speed can completely change the outcome of your day. Whether you're fishing Kentucky Lake, Tennessee River reservoirs, or any lake with suspended crappie, hopefully this video helps you put more fish in the boat.
