Bio-inspired Sensing

At the 2016 Hackaday SuperConference, educator and engineer Dr. Christal Gordon gives a talk on bio-inspired sensing. The most basic explanation of the human eye is that light shines on rods and cones, and these signals are sent to the brain. This is true, but a lot of the actual sensing and data processing happens because of the hardware. The rods and cones of your eye are set up for edge detection and noise rejection. Observing how these systems work and applying that knowledge to robotics has the potential for huge advances in the field.
