I took a walk in Mejiro, a quiet residential area in Toshima-ku, Tokyo. The area is surrounded by a very nice environment, with the Gakushuin, a prestigious school that originated as an academy for Japanese court nobles, located right next to Mejiro Station on the Yamanote Line. Going back in history, the area in the direction of Nakaochiai was once called "Mejiro Bunka-mura" (Mejiro Cultural Village), which was developed as an upscale residential area, and perhaps because of this, it is also a place where artists' ateliers are still preserved. In addition, Mejiro's neighbor Shiinamachi was the location of the apartment building "Tokiwa-so" where many famous Japanese cartoonists lived and produced many manga artists.
