Foreign Involvement in the South African War, 1899-1902.
The South African War (also known as the Anglo-Boer War) of 1899-1902 between Britain and the two Boer Republics of the Transvaal and Orange Free State, is often seen as a mere footnote in British imperial history. However, the War Museum has produced this video to introduce the lesser-known topic of foreign involvement in the War to a wider audience. In order to contextualise the role of foreign volunteers, it is necessary to take note of the causes of the war, the course of the hostilities, and the international sympathy for the Boers which prevailed at the time.
