The Forgotten Disaster That Built Grand Central

Most people remember it wrong. It wasn't 1903, and it wasn't an explosion. It was a rear-end train collision inside the Park Avenue Tunnel just north of Grand Central Station, on the morning of January 8, 1902, and it changed New York City forever. When a New York Central local out of White Plains ran a danger signal its engineer couldn't see, it drove into the back of a stopped New Haven train from Danbury.
