Hello Makkalea! ❤️ Today I finally reached Colombo, the vibrant capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. Located on the island’s western coast, Colombo is the country’s commercial and financial hub, blending colonial architecture, modern skyscrapers, bustling markets, beautiful lakes, and rich multicultural heritage. My first stop was the Lotus Tower (Nelum Kuluna), Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmark and the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia. Inspired by the lotus flower, the tower was built as a telecommunications hub while also becoming one of Colombo’s biggest tourist attractions. From the observation deck, you can enjoy breathtaking 360° panoramic views of Colombo, the Indian Ocean, Beira Lake, the Colombo Port, and the city’s ever-growing skyline. For lunch, I visited the legendary Ibrahim Hotel, serving authentic Sri Lankan meals since 1951. I tried their famous Kidu Rice, a unique rice cooked with fresh milk and fragrant pandan leaves. Alongside it, I enjoyed delicious Thecha Fish, rich and flavorful Beef Curry, spicy Brinjal Sambal, and several traditional Sri Lankan side dishes. To finish the meal, I tasted one of Sri Lanka’s most loved desserts—Watalappam, a creamy jaggery custard infused with coconut milk, cardamom, and spices.
