Google found us a new scenic drive to Astoria
Welcome back to Hippie Bliss Travel. Today we are heading back to Astoria, Oregon. My husband saw that the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park had six trolls he wanted to go see. I mentioned the park when I recently did a video about going to the Goonies house in a recent video. But it was more of a casual mention. The park is small but beautiful. As we were leaving we put into Google maps that we wanted to go to Astoria. Usually it sends us to Seaside the north to Astoria or it sends us up US 30 along the Columbia river heading west to Astoria. Today it sent us partway west on US 26 then it had us make a left turn heading south on highway 103. So we decided to see where Google was sending us. Surprisingly it sent us on a beautiful drive. Then we passed the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area. It is over 1100 acres for hundreds of Elk and other wildlife. Its purpose is to protect and enhance habitat to benefit native wildlife species, In the wintertime they have free winter feeding of the Elk. Where you can make a reservation to go out in a trailer being pulled by a tractor to help feed the Elk. They offer this December to February. They start taking reservations at 8am December 1. We then went to the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park to see the trolls.Walked around exploring the history of the Scandinavian people to the Astoria area. Ending with lunch at the Bowpicker Fish & Chips. It is like a food truck but is a boat. It has one thing on the menu fish & chips. Either a full order or half order. There was a line the hole time we were in Astoria. Limited hours of 11-4, no seating, there were some picnic tables hearby but were full so we walked the couple of blocks with our lunch and sat on a park bench overlooking the Columbia river and enjoyed lunch before heading home. To make a reservation for the Elk feeding tours. Go to Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife at myodfw.com Reservations will be accepted starting December 1 at 8am. 503-755-2264. #hippieblisstravel #exploring #travel #over50travel #pnw #budgettravel #astoria
