肺がん患者は長生きできるようになったのか?

This time, I'd like to address the question: Are lung cancer patients living longer? Please take a look at this graph. The left side shows the number of cases (those who contracted the disease). The right side shows the number of deaths. Lung cancer is the red line, which is quite common. It's a so-called intractable cancer. The number of people who develop lung cancer and die from it is steadily increasing. But now, a question immediately comes to mind, doesn't it? Why? Isn't genomic medicine making progress? Isn't immunotherapy winning a Nobel Prize recently? Why is it increasing so much? WHY? Don't worry! There's a trick to this data. What is the most influential cause of cancer? It's aging, right? Cancer is caused by cellular copying errors, and the longer you live, the more frequently these errors occur. In other words, this rapidly increasing graph is due to the increasing aging population. Are people really living longer? If we want to see whether lung cancer mortality rates have truly declined, we need to create a graph that removes the effect of age. This is called an age-adjusted mortality rate. To find out the truth, Dr. Takahama of Kinki University Hospital's Department of Medical Oncology joined us again to tell us the truth. ▼Introduction to One Step Manga video (Kazuo Hasegawa's life story) Made by students at Kansai Cultural and Art High School!    • 『♯私とがん』マンガ動画~がんプロジェクト  ワンステップ×関西文化芸術高等学校   ★NEW!
