Sports news at: https://www.sportschau.de/ It took seven minutes before Popp made her first appearance. After a long ball, she found herself surrounded by two defenders at the halfway line. Popp didn't hesitate, simply taking a shot from that long range, as goalkeeper Mahmutovic had moved slightly out of position. The ball flew wide, but that courage, that can-do attitude that made Popp a legend in Wolfsburg and helped her team lift the DFB Cup ten times in a row (2015-2024). Popp's time is over, and VfL Wolfsburg's dominance is also history. It took 20 minutes before the Munich side first threatened the Wolfsburg penalty area. Klara Bühl delivered a dangerous cross right onto Pernille Harder's head. But the Dane, from a good position, couldn't get enough power behind her shot, sending it just inches wide. It was one of the few penalty area situations in the first half where VfL held firm against the Munich attacks and conceded little. In the 34th minute, Lena Lattwein tested Mahmutovic with a good long-range shot, but the goalkeeper made a confident save from what was Wolfsburg's best chance so far. A few minutes before halftime, Tanikawa surged into the VfL Wolfsburg penalty area. Former Bayern Munich player Lineth Beerensteyn attempted a risky sliding tackle to stop Tanikawa, but instead of catching the ball, she caught her opponent's ankle. Referee Franziska Wildfeuer initially waved play on, but after reviewing the video footage, she reversed her decision and pointed to the spot. Stanway confidently converted the resulting penalty to make it 1-0. Shortly afterward, Harder had a golden opportunity to seal the victory. Once again, it was the impressive Tanikawa who received the ball in the Wolfsburg penalty area. The Japanese player spotted the unmarked Harder at the six-yard box and delivered a precise pass. However, Harder again failed to get enough power behind her shot, this time with her foot. Although she beat goalkeeper Johannes, German international Sarai Linder cleared the ball off the line (45+2). A 2-0 scoreline would have been far too much in this hard-fought match at that point. Shortly afterward, a 2-0 lead would have been a significant blow. The Munich women came out of the break much stronger, increasingly pinning Wolfsburg back in their own penalty area and becoming ever more dangerous. Dallmann, Gwinn, Tanikawa, Bühl – the Munich attack gradually found its rhythm. It seemed only a matter of time before FC Bayern would make it 2-0 – and so it came to pass: Magdalena Eriksson sent a long cross from midfield to the onrushing Harder. Janina Minge misjudged the flight of the ball, allowing the Dane to head home unchallenged against Johannes' momentum to make it 2-0 (59'). Anyone who still believed in a Wolfsburg comeback despite this clear lead was quickly dispelled. Klara Bühl broke into the penalty area, passed the ball around to the onrushing Tanikawa, who simply had to tap it over the line (77'). 3-0 – the second double in the history of FC Bayern Women was secured at this point. Caruso finally sealed the victory with a beautiful free kick into the corner just minutes before the end (85'). With this double win, the Munich women capped off what was arguably the best season in their history.
