After all, a countertop isn't cheap, even for simple decor, we want a good material, right? Whether it's a granite kitchen countertop or synthetic stones like quartz. Granite stands out for its natural formation, with options such as São Gabriel black, Siena white, or Ubatuba green. Quartz, on the other hand, offers homogeneous and modern tones, as well as versions that imitate marble. Result: a technical tie. 🔹 ITEM 2 – AESTHETIC VERSATILITY: Quartz has a slight advantage because it's more neutral and easily combined with styles such as Scandinavian, industrial, minimalist, and modern. Granite, on the other hand, with its natural specks, can limit the composition if the other finishes aren't balanced. 🔹 ITEM 3 – IMPACT RESISTANCE: Both are very resistant rocks, ideal for daily use in wet and dry areas. Result: a tie. 🔹 ITEM 4 – SCRATCH RESISTANCE: Quartz has a higher hardness on the Mohs scale (7), while granite ranges between 6 and 7. This gives quartz a slight advantage in this regard, but be careful: not all quartz has the same resin content—the more resin, the lower the resistance! 🔹 ITEM 5 – POROSITY AND STAINS: Here, quartz comes out on top: it has an absorption rate of only 0.02% and does not require waterproofing. Granite, while more resistant than marble, absorbs between 0.2% and 0.5% and requires annual waterproofing. 🔹 ITEM 6 – HEAT RESISTANCE: Granite wins hands down: as a natural rock, it can withstand higher temperatures without warping. Quartz, with its resin content, can burn or yellow when in contact with hot pans. 🔹 ITEM 7 – INSTALLATION AND STRUCTURE: Technically tied. Both require adequate structure, such as a cleat or carpentry support. Neither can be installed carelessly. 🔹 ITEM 8 – EASE OF REPAIR: Granite is easier to repair—chips, scratches, and even light stains can be corrected with polishing or plastic filler. Quartz, being homogeneous, is more difficult to conceal imperfections. 🔹 ITEM 9 – AVAILABILITY AND LABOR: Tie. Both depend on specialized marble companies. In some regions, granite may be easier to find with faster delivery. 🔹 ITEM 10 – VISIBLE JOINTS: Quartz wins in this regard, as its homogeneity allows for more discreet joints. Granite, on the other hand, with its textures, can reveal joints more. 🔹 ITEM 11 – SCULPTING AND FINISHES: Tie. Both allow for finishes such as carved sinks, recesses, and details on window sills or thresholds. 🔹 ITEM 12 – SUN EXPOSURE: Granite has the advantage here: it doesn't fade or yellow over time. Quartz can yellow due to the resin in its composition—so it's not recommended for outdoor areas with direct sunlight. 🔹 ITEM 13 – PRICE: Granite is much cheaper, with prices ranging from R$200 to R$1,000/m². Quartz starts at R$1,000 and can exceed R$2,000/m² depending on the brand and finish. 🔹 ITEM 14 – COST-BENEFIT: Even with fewer points in other criteria, granite won in the cost-benefit category. ✅ Why watch until the end?
