Chamarrita Class @ IDESST Sausalito - April 14, 2024
On April 14, 2024, the IDESST Sausalito Portuguese Cultural Center held a class to teach beginners how to dance the Chamarrita, a popular Azorean folk dance. We were fortunate to have David Garcia join us both to take the lead on the instruction, and to serve as the “mandador,” the individual who calls the dance. David is both a member of the San Jose-based folkloric dance group, Grupo Folclórico Tempos de Outrora, as well as a renowned fadista - a singer of Portuguese Fado.
