Money saving options to fuel your canister stove

Obviously, the easiest way to fuel a canister stove is with the canisters sold specifically for them. But there are other ways which work well in most conditions and that can save you money. By using an adapter, the stoves can run on propane or butane. The only downside is with the pure butane tanks, you will need to use a remote stove or have some other sort of base to make it safe. The tanks are too tall and narrow to safely use a tank top stove. Another drawback is that butane is terrible when things get cold, so it is best to only count on using pure butane in moderate or warm temperatures. When it comes to using an adapter on propane, the 1-pound tanks are stable enough to use a tank top stove (not the narrow smaller tanks) and they are heavy.
