Pedra do Imperador is one of Nova Friburgo's landmarks, offering stunning views of the city, including the city center, the Mury, Jardim D. João VI, Jardim Imperial, Braunes, Cônego, and Cascatinha neighborhoods, among others, as well as the surrounding mountains. This flight, from the top of this Natural Monument in Nova Friburgo, offers privileged views of the following places: Alto da Caledônia Peak, Baixo Caledônia Peak, the Catarinas (Father, Mother, and Son), Morro da Cruz, the Duas Pedras, Pedra do Porchelet, the Três Picos de Salinas, among others, as well as the distant peaks of the Serra do Mar, almost reaching the border with Minas Gerais. Emperor's Rock is also known by other names such as Elephant Rock, Canon Rock, and Morro das Pedras. The name Emperor's Rock was created in the late 19th century in honor of Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II, who visited the city from 1868 to 1876, sometimes for official ceremonies such as the inauguration of the Cantagalo Railroad extension, on the stretch from Cachoeiras de Macacu to Nova Friburgo, and other times privately, such as to take showers at the Hydrotherapy Institute or to explore the region's natural beauty.
