On est là pour vous - S3 - #06 - La laïcité dans l’ADN de La Vie Active
In this new episode of "We're Here for You," Guillaume Sénéchal, communications officer and secularism advisor for nearly five years, explores a fundamental principle of the French Republic: secularism. Far from being an abstract concept, it is embodied daily in the support provided to people with disabilities or in vulnerable situations within La Vie Active. Secularism: A Simple and Protective Principle Guillaume offers an accessible definition: "Secularism is the neutrality of the State and the guarantee that everyone is free to believe, not believe, or change their mind, without pressure." This principle, enshrined in the Constitution since 1946, nevertheless suffers from a twofold challenge: a general lack of understanding and constant political manipulation. Contrary to popular belief, secularism does not prohibit; it protects everyone's freedoms. A Strong Historical Roots Founded in 1964 by teachers, the "hussars of the Republic," La Vie Active has secularism in its DNA. Long before the current debates, the association's founders enshrined this principle at the heart of their humanist and fraternal work. Secularism does not erase differences but allows for their harmonious coexistence. Training and Supporting on a Daily Basis For the past ten years, La Vie Active has been committed to training all its employees in the values of the Republic. Guillaume acts as a trainer but also as a resource person to answer professionals' questions. Secularism in the Social and Healthcare Sector: A Delicate Balance In social and healthcare institutions, secularism is applied as a principle of freedom and mutual respect. Faced with tensions, which are rare but real, education and dialogue take precedence. Often, conflicts are more a matter of civility than religious issues. Advice for professionals Guillaume offers two valuable recommendations: never delve into religious dogma – there are as many ways to believe as there are believers – and prioritize civility rather than immediately invoking secularism, in order to avoid unnecessary tensions.
