LES MURS VÉGÉTAUX OU L’ART DU JARDIN VERTICAL, UNE RÉVOLUTION DANS LA DÉCORATION AVEC LES PLANTES

NewsJardinTV is pleased to offer you here the entire "Expert Opinions" section, taken from issue 80 of the major weekly program "Bienvenue au jardin!", hosted by our editor-in-chief, Patrick Mioulane, and landscape gardener Pierre-Alexandre Risser. Joining them today is Sylvie Ligny, creator of the "mook" Garden Lab. We owe the concept of the green wall to CNRS botanist Patrick Blanc. He created it inspired by the vegetation layers he studied in the rainforest. First presented at the Cité des Sciences in 1986, this idea of the vertical garden revolutionized the decorative display of plants. New vocations have emerged, both among landscapers and manufacturers, who offer kit solutions of varying reliability and aesthetic appeal. The concepts of living wall, green wall, and vegetation wall describe gardens inspired by vertical ecosystems, designed to create aesthetic decorative elements, as part of what is known as urban gardening, or to constitute works of art using plants, or even to integrate them as elements of urban ecology. Patrick Blanc's canvas planting technique accepts no technical flaws. Since the plants have virtually no soil, they must never lack water and must not be exposed to extreme cold. Such an installation requires constant monitoring and rarely allows for absences of more than two or three days. It is better suited to an interior composition, which is, in fact, the origin of the concept. This is why Pierre-Alexandre Risser designs his vegetation walls differently, creating true "vertical planters" 50 cm thick. To do this, he uses gabions, stainless steel wire "cages" commonly used for retaining walls, where stones and soil are mixed. The gabions serve as a structure on which he attaches the geotextile, which will give a seamless appearance to this plant display.
