The craftsman we have today had started boat building 35 years ago. The boat that you are watching is a fishing trawler. All type of fishes including hilsa, lakkah ect can be caught by this fishing boat. There are two type of boat-one is fishing boat and the other is cargo boat. Our today’s craftsman can build fishing boat. But there is no different between the wooden fishing boat except size. The length of this trawler is 52.5 feet and the width in the upper part is 14 feet and in the lower part is 12.5 feet. Garjon tree, Tershol tree , Tushi tree and Gura tree ( all local name) are used to build this fishing boat. The upper part of the body is built by Trashol tree and the lower part by Garjon tree. This brand new boat has no servicing charge for the next seven years. The boat needs servicing after 10 years. Around 12 /14 people have worked for around three months to build this boat. The building of the body costs around Taka (BDT) 7 millions and when the cost of engine will add, the cost will be raised to over BDT 10 million Bangladeshi taka. The thickness of the sliced wood used to build the boat is 28 inch to 32 inch . The wages of the craftsman is Tk 1100 to Tk 1200 per day for each person. In the cabin of the boat around 16/17 persons can stay and the boat has a storage capacity of around one tonne fish. Two men are needed to operate the boat.
