While the population is growing rapidly, centered around the Segyo New Town, transportation infrastructure is failing to keep pace. [Cho Eun-bi / Osan, Gyeonggi-do: It is very inconvenient that express subway trains rarely stop in Osan, and there aren't many express trains going from Suwon to Sinchang either...] Multiple transfers are essential to travel from Osan to Seoul. [Choi Su-min / Osan, Gyeonggi-do: There were buses that went directly, but it was inconvenient because I had to transfer on the subway.] Currently, the Bundang Line only connects as far as Suwon, so Osan citizens rely on buses and transfers. Accordingly, the Bundang Line extension project is being pursued to connect Giheung Station, passing through Dongtan, to Osan University Station and the Segyo 2 and 3 districts. Although it was included in the 4th National Railway Network Construction Plan in 2021, the project has recently hit a roadblock after being excluded from the list of projects subject to preliminary feasibility studies. Osan City is conducting a city-wide signature campaign until the 20th of next month to expedite the Bundang Line extension. Transportation demand for Osan University Station is expected to increase significantly as it is linked to large-scale residential complexes such as Segyo New Town. The city has proposed the formation of a working committee with Yongin and Hwaseong to engage in a joint response.
