This session was taken from a Level 1 Certificate Course where participants learn the nine foundational movements in CrossFit. The push jerk is one of the nine foundational movements. It allows athletes to move 30% more weight overhead than they can with the push press. The push jerk employs the hips to create upward momentum on the bar while the athlete pushes against the bar with the arms and dips to receive the push jerk in a partial squat. If you can master coaching the push jerk in a large CrossFit class, you can master teaching any complicated CrossFit movement.
