Noraa Ransey - WOW! Maker of the Week

Week Four – For many students, summer break means freedom, fun, and time away from the classroom. But for some families, it can also mean uncertainty, especially when school meals are no longer available. That’s where people like Noraa Ransey step in. A teacher at North Calloway Elementary School and Board Chair for Soup for the Soul in Calloway County, Noraa has dedicated herself to making sure students and families continue to receive the support they need long after the school year ends. Through Soup for the Soul, Noraa and a team of volunteers help provide meals to children and families throughout the summer, ensuring that students who rely on school meal programs don’t go hungry when classes are out. But their mission goes beyond food. The organization also provides books to students over summer break, helping encourage reading and continued learning at home. Thanks to those efforts, schools have seen students return in the fall more prepared, more confident, and less likely to have fallen behind in their reading skills. It’s the kind of work that quietly changes lives—one meal, one book, and one child at a time. As part of our ChangeMakers initiative, we’re proud to partner with WPSD Local 6 and The Paducah Sun to share these stories and celebrate the people making a difference right here at home.
