Bre Sykes Podunajec - WOW! Maker of the Week

Sometimes the people making the biggest difference are the ones working quietly behind the scenes, showing up every day, solving problems, lifting others up, and making sure students know someone is always in their corner. For the students and families of McCracken County High School, that person is Bre Sykes Podunajec. As the Family Resource and Youth Services Center Director at MCHS, Bre goes far beyond the responsibilities of her role. Whether helping students navigate challenges at home and at school, connecting families with needed resources, or simply being a steady source of encouragement, she works tirelessly to remove barriers and help students succeed. But what makes Bre truly special is the way she does it, with compassion, positivity, and a sense of humor that can brighten even the hardest days. In addition to supporting students and families, Bre serves on multiple committees, has helped launch student clubs, and volunteers wherever she’s needed. Her leadership has also helped shape McCracken County High School’s commitment to becoming a more family-friendly school, building stronger partnerships between families, educators, and the community to create better outcomes for every student. Her work is a reminder that sometimes changing lives starts with something simple: making people feel seen, supported, and valued. As part of our ChangeMakers initiative, we’re proud to partner with WPSD Local 6 and The Paducah Sun to share these stories and celebrate the people making a difference right here at home.
