While it's possible to create a base bead with clear glass and then apply colored glass on top, this method tends to result in lighter colors and less defined boundaries. Create a small cylindrical base bead using translucent white glass on a mandrel coated with release agent. 2. Place transparent light blue glass on one side of the bead, 1/6 of the way around. 3. Place the same amount of transparent light blue glass on the opposite side. 4. Shape the glass into a flat, semi-circular form. 5. Place the same amount of transparent sky blue glass next to the transparent light blue glass. 6. Place the same amount of clear sky blue glass next to the clear light blue glass on the opposite side. 7. Shape the placed glass into a flat, semi-circular form. 8. Place clear blue glass between the clear light blue and clear sky blue glass. 9. Place the same amount of clear blue glass between the clear light blue and clear sky blue glass on the opposite side. 10. Shape the placed glass into a flat, semi-circular form. 11. Slowly and evenly heat the entire piece, melting and shrinking it. 12. Once the entire piece is round and smooth, use a trowel to refine the shape. 13. Once it has cooled enough that the annealing material no longer sticks to it, place it in the annealing material.
