Save the Falmouth Line - Rail vs. Trail - Summer 2026 Update

It has been a while since I put out an update on the Falmouth Line rail versus trail situation that has been going on for a few years. To start I’ll just let these scenes speak for themselves: Notice anything? There’s still no trail. The tracks are still there. And trains are still running! At this point nothing, after all these years, nothing has actually been accomplished. The rail trail or rail removal advocates are still active though but I’m pretty confident we’ll never see these tracks removed. The Falmouth Line has been pretty busy recently. The freight train appears to be running two or even three days per week with 10 or more cars. During my visit on the third of July the southbound train consisted of one locomotive hauling 14 empty cars to the Upper Cape Regional Transfer Station. They returned with 11 loaded cars. This meant about 50 tractor trailers were removed from the busy Cape highways on the crowded holiday weekend. The next week I shot the train they came down with 10 empties and went north with 14 loaded cars. The Cape Cod Central also continues to make great use of the Falmouth Line as they have in years past. The dinner train uses the line to stay out of the way of the CapeFlyer on Friday and Saturday nights. By running down the Falmouth Line passengers are treated to scenic views while the train makes various short stops along the route. At times the train can be seen stopped in Pocasset, at Monks’ Cove, Monument Beach, and Back River. Later this season two North Falmouth dinner train departures will run. The rest of the video will show the line in operation so far during the 2026 operating season. Bourne & Falmouth, MA 2026 Facebook:   / mslrailmedia   Comments? Questions?
