Lenguas en resistencia - Náhuatl, el alma de un pueblo

Since the 1960s, in the town of Santa Ana Tlacotenco (Milpa Alta), south of Mexico City, some residents decided to dedicate their efforts to preserving their native language: Nahuatl. Since then, this group of Nahuatl speakers, led by Francisco Morales Baranda, has published newspapers and educational materials, organized seminars, contests, and meetings, trained teachers, and transformed their schools into bilingual learning centers. They also established the Nahuatl Language Academy. However, it seems these efforts have not been enough, and the number of Nahuatl speakers in the Milpa Alta borough is decreasing daily. Newer generations are more concerned with other things than preserving their traditions. "What are we doing wrong?" they ask themselves, and it is the residents of Santa Ana Tlacotenco themselves who express their concern, the reasons for this decline, and possible actions to reverse it. Yes, the Ceremonial Nahuatl of Milpa Alta is in danger, and specific actions are needed to prevent its displacement.
