Make a Robe a la Francaise | Part 3: Trimming TWO Gowns

After another long hiatus, I'm back with Part 3 of my robe a la francaise series. In this video, I'll finish trimming two gowns. One gown was for the St. Louis Historical Sewing Society's 18th century ball in October 2023. The Fêtes Historiques de St. Louis was a wonderful evening, and I'm so glad I was able to attend. The other was made from extra fabric using a different trimming style - a bonus gown! - to replace some missing footage from the last video in this series. I relied heavily on @AmericanDuchess Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking by Lauren Stowell and @AbbyCox , and Patterns of Fashion (books 1 and 6) by Janet Arnold and The School of Historical Dress. If you are are a visual learner, consider this video series an unofficial companion to what you see in those books, which are incredible, invaluable resources for historical costuming. This three-part series shows the process step by step. Part 1 focused on the petticoat. Part 2 was about making the gown. And this video, Part 3, focuses on the trimming and decorating. #stlfetes2023, #robealafrancaise, #18thcentury, #costube, #historicalcostume, #sewingtutorial, #historicalclothing, #historicalfashion As always, I hope you'll subscribe, and if you want to stay up to date on my projects between videos, feel free to follow me on instagram @crmarble.
