Part 1 of 5 the word "alchemy" has been stretched pretty far. This talk begins there, and goes somewhere much older. In its original sense, alchemy was never a technique or a formula. It was not a coded system for material gain. It was a way of perceiving and engaging with life itself — a language that sees through to the living processes of transformation already underway in every experience. The traces of this are still embedded in how we speak. When we feel burned out, something has been consumed by an imbalance of fire. When emotions boil over, something has exceeded its containment. When we feel frozen in fear, movement has ceased and energy has solidified. These are not simply metaphors. They are fragments of an older and more practical understanding — one that recognized human experience not as separate from the dynamics of nature, but as an expression of them. This talk, the first in the Subtle Energy Alchemy Series, opens the inquiry by returning to the two images most associated with alchemy: the transformation of lead into gold, and the philosopher's stone.
