Mountain Climbing in Kyushu: I climbed Mt. Tara, which straddles Nagasaki and Saga Prefectures, via the shortest route from the forest road. While not the highest peak in the Tara mountain range, Mt. Tara is a historically significant mountain in the region, representing Shugendo (mountain asceticism). Nearby is the Kinzenji Mountain Hut, a rare mountain hut in Kyushu with a hut caretaker. *Open only on weekends and holidays.
