Urban Bikepacking. The Barnsley Boundary Trail
The challenge I gave myself was to put together a bikepacking route within the boundary of a Metropolitan Borough Council, namely Barnsley. In other words, a bikepacking trip on your doorstep. The Barnsley Boundary Walk already exists. Using this as a starting point I tried to put together an equivalent boundary cycle trail using sections of the Trans Pennine Trail, bridleways, byways and mostly quiet roads. The route starts and finishes at the railway station. Barnsley has the advantage of stretching out to the edge of the Peak District so that a good overnight camp was easy to find. I did the route after a particularly wet winter. The trails would be much more user friendly in drier conditions.
