VEJA o RESULTADO! Coloquei uma ÁRVORE na SALA da MINHA CASA
Many people come home from the garden center wanting to remove their plant from its original pot and place it in a new cachepot or a pretty vase. But what to do when the plant is over two meters tall and, including the pot and substrate, the "little green one" weighs over seventy kilos? Our gardener Carol Costa shows that it's possible to repot it yourself (but a little help is welcome!). The right plant The chosen species was a pleomele-aurea (Dracaena reflexa "Song of Jamaica"), from the producer / boavistaplantas . This is a very versatile plant and you'll be very happy if it's placed in a location that receives plenty of light. At the end of the video you'll see that Carol placed the pot right next to a large window. Materials Needed Time to gather the supplies: a pot (with a saucer) of a compatible size that is larger than the plant's initial location, expanded clay, felt (or geotextile fabric), and substrate. It will also be very helpful to have a drill with a hole saw on hand to drill the pot and masking tape to secure the fabric, since you will have to leave the pot to fit the plant. Don't forget the base with wheels. Get a thick rug or a large piece of faux leather or canvas. It will also be good to have pruning shears and a healing paste on hand (there's a recipe at the end of the description). Removing the plant from the pot Now, follow along as Carol did: lay the plant down so that the pot rests on the faux leather. Remove the old pot. Make a hole in the new pot and place a piece of felt over the hole. Add a generous layer of expanded clay – don't use gravel, the idea is to keep the pot light and functional. Cover the expanded clay layer with a piece of felt and secure it with masking tape. Loosen the bottom part of the root ball Returning to the plant, gently loosen the soil from the roots on the sides and bottom of the plant, keeping the middle root ball intact. This will help the plant root better. Place a good amount of substrate in the new pot. Trying to do everything on top of the mat A tarp, faux leather, or mat also helps keep things organized during and after transplanting. Keep the substrate out of the new pot area Using a small broom, clean up anything you can that's on the faux leather – you don't want to scratch your new pot when dragging the plant into it. Reuse the plant's original substrate You'll certainly need to top up the larger pot with more substrate, but don't waste the soil that came with the plant, even if it looks poorer than the super-powerful material you bought. Mixing the new and the old, and with a little fertilizer, the old substrate is just as good as the one fresh out of the package. Pay attention to watering. Moment of truth: stand the whole thing upright. Take the opportunity to place the saucer on the wheeled stand and the pot with the plant on top of everything. At this point, some help will be easier. Everything is ready for generous watering: the water will help settle the substrate and ensure the roots are properly positioned without damage. As a final touch, take the opportunity to do some pruning and protect the cuts on the branches with a healing paste – a mixture of petroleum jelly, propolis, and cinnamon, without specific measurements but with a color reminiscent of a spoonable brigadeiro (Brazilian chocolate fudge).
