During the latest online broadcast at the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Center, we will examine furniture designed by Auguste de Montferrand for the rooms of the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna in the Winter Palace in 1827-28. The interior of the Empress's chambers was lost in the palace fire of 1837, but the furniture was salvaged and reused during the building's restoration. Together with Ivan Aleksandrovich Garmanov, Senior Researcher in the State Hermitage Museum's Department of the History of Russian Culture and Furniture Curator, we will examine the materials, construction, and stylistic features of furniture pieces crafted by the finest St. Petersburg artisans.
