Surface Patch Definition: Creates a flat or curved surface by filling in a closed boundary, similar to a fabric patch stretched across a frame. How it works: Select a closed sketch as the boundary edge. You can control curvature by referencing another curve for tangency instead of a flat fill. Best for: Capping off open surface bodies or creating rounded organic shapes like the bowl of a spoon. 2. Surface Sweep Definition: Creates a surface by moving a profile along a path. How it works: Select a profile sketch and a path sketch (2D or 3D curve). The profile follows the path, generating the surface. Best for: Creating the handle of the spoon or any curved, tapered shape that follows a guide curve. 3. Surface Stitch Definition: Combines multiple separate surface bodies into a single, unified surface. How it works: Select two or more surfaces that share matching edges. Fusion 360 stitches them together, closing any gaps. Best for: Merging surfaces made in different steps (like the patch and the sweep) into one continuous body. 4. Surface Trim Definition: Cuts away unwanted portions of a surface using a sketch profile or another surface as the cutting tool. How it works: Select a sketch or surface as the cutting boundary, then choose which side of the surface to remove. Best for: Cleaning up excess surface area or shaping the part's silhouette, like trimming the spoon's outline. 5. Surface Thicken Definition: Adds a defined wall thickness to a surface, converting it into a solid body. How it works: Select the surface(s), set a thickness value, and choose which side the material is added to.
