In 1990, she received the Reiko Kawakami Spanish Dance Newcomer Award. After studying under Keiko Sato and Yasushi Yamazaki, she moved to Spain. Upon her return, her performance in Lemon Elegy (1998)—a collaboration with Noh theater—earned her the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Newcomer Award. Since 2001, she has starred in Ay Sonezaki Shinju (Produced/Lyrics by Yoko Aki, Musical Supervision/Composition by Ryudo Uzaki), which won the Excellence Award at the Arts Festival. In 2004, she received a standing ovation at the prestigious "Festival de Jerez" in Spain. That same year, she won the Grand Prize at the Arts Festival for ARTE Y SOLERA Kanki. In 2006, she was selected as one of Newsweek Japan’s "100 Japanese People the World Respects." With her extraordinary physical expression and unique presence, she continues to captivate audiences both in Japan and internationally.
