She discovered flamenco while studying dance at Japan Women's College of Physical Education and won the Reiko Kawakami Spanish Dance Newcomer Award in 1990. After studying under Keiko Sato and Yasushi Yamazaki, she moved to Spain. Upon her return, she performed with Noh theater in "Lemon Elegy" (1998) and received the Agency for Cultural Affairs National Arts Festival Newcomer Award. She has starred in "Ay Sonezaki Shinju" (produced by Yoko Aki with music by Ryudo Uzaki) since its 2001 premiere, winning the Excellence Award at the National Arts Festival. In 2004, she was invited to the prestigious "Festival de Jerez" in Spain to great acclaim. That same year, she won the Grand Prize at the National Arts Festival for "ARTE Y SOLERA Kanki." In 2006, Newsweek Japan selected her as one of the "100 Japanese People the World Respects." As a one-of-a-kind dancer, she continues to fascinate audiences worldwide with her extraordinary physical expression.
