This temple is the origin of the place name "Hyakumanben," where Kyoto University is located, and is also the birthplace of "Nenju-kuri," a practice of passing a large rosary to the person next to you while chanting Buddhist prayers. It is said that at the end of the Kamakura period, when a disease spread throughout the capital, the plague subsided after the Nenbutsu prayers were chanted 1 million times over seven days and seven nights. What seven wonders will Moriwaki and Yanagida encounter at Hyakumanben Chionji Temple, which houses numerous treasures including a scroll written by Kukai, an Amida Buddha statue by Kaikei, and a large rosary bestowed by Emperor Go-Daigo?!
