Olèrdola. Conjunto histórico. 2. Época romana (Alt Penedès)

(Cat) The historical complex of the Monumental Complex of Olèrdola is located in a strategic position, on a hill overlooking the Penedès plain. It is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Catalonia because it preserves remains of several overlapping cultures: Iberian, Roman, Visigothic and medieval, which we will present over the course of three videos. Part 2. Roman period The Roman presence in Olèrdola dates from approximately the end of the 2nd century BC to the first centuries of our era, especially after the Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula during the wars between Rome and Carthage. The Romans took advantage of Olèrdola's excellent defensive situation. From the top of the hill, communications between the Mediterranean coast and the interior of the territory were controlled. Its position allowed them to monitor the commercial and military routes that crossed the Penedès area. With Romanization, the ancient Iberian town gradually adapted to new forms of organization, construction and use of the territory.
