Apologise for Forced Adoption – Woman's Hour, 29 August 2025

Former UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown has added his weight to the campaign for an adoption apology. He is calling on the Labour Government to formally apologise for the state’s part in the abhorrent historic practices, which saw over 250,000 women and girls have their babies taken for adoption. Anna Foster at BBC Women’s Hour spoke to Diana Defries and Karen Constantine about the lasting effects of forced adoption and the prospect of an apology in the new session of Parliament. Karen, author of ‘Taken: Experiences of Forced Adoption’, told of an unresponsive government, repeating the same lame platitudes, and ignoring the recommendations of a report by the Joint Committee on Human Rights. She said now is the time for the Government to step up and issue an apology. Broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 29 August 2025. Taken: Experiences of Forced Adoption is available in paperback and e-book from Amazon, good bookshops and other online platforms. Signed copies can be ordered from https://prampublications.com
