7 Sewing Machine Feet That Changed How I Sew

After 20 years of working between home domestic machines and full industrial setups, I've accumulated a lot of sewing machine feet. Some of them I never touch. These seven I reach for constantly. I'm breaking down my personal favorites, roughly half for domestic machines and half for industrial, and actually showing you how to use them, not just what they look like. Because knowing you own a blind hem foot is one thing. Knowing exactly when to use it and how to set it up is what actually changes your sewing. I start with a quick teaser of a couple of these feet in action so you can see what's possible before I break down the full list. These are the feet that have genuinely shifted how I approach certain construction problems, and a few of them translate across both machine types in ways that might surprise you. Whether you're working on a home machine, a serger, or an industrial setup, the right presser foot isn't just a convenience... it's the difference between fighting your fabric and letting the machine do the work for you. These are my picks after decades of sewing in professional theatrical and costume environments, and I think a few of them are going to become your new go-to tools too. If you want to know more about any specific foot I show, or if you've got a favorite I didn't mention, drop it in the comments.
