Das zweite Buch der Könige to go (in 11 Minuten)

"Then the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from his presence, and none remained except the tribe of Judah only." - This is the beginning of the temporary end of the monarchy in Israel - Uncle Nebu takes the remaining Israelites into Babylonian captivity. SOMMER'S WORLD LITERATURE tells how this comes about in just under eleven minutes. The Second Book of Kings begins with the grandiose departure of the prophet Elijah, who is driven to heaven by God in a "chariot of fire" (presumably not a Porsche). His successor, Elisha, tries to maintain law, order, health, and spiritual well-being among the inhabitants of Israel, but has a difficult time with the kings. All the kings of Israel and almost all the kings of Judah, some of whom follow one another and some of whom overthrow one another in coups, deviate from God's laws. In return, God makes them suffer the consequences, usually by attacking them from outside. The two kingdoms initially resist this, but after several generations, they become dependent on the Assyrian Empire and are deported one by one – first Israel, then Judah – from Canaan into Babylonian captivity. "In the ninth year of his reign (...) Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it, building forts around it." (2 Kings 25:1) Warning: THIS TO-GO VERSION DOES NOT REPLACE READING THE ORIGINAL VERSION. Reading for yourself makes you happy!
