The Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources, Alicia Bárcena, reported that approximately 70% of Mexico's rivers show some level of pollution due to decades of environmental degradation. Given this situation, the government will implement a cleanup and restoration program for the Lerma-Santiago, Atoyac, and Tula rivers, which will include thousands of samples, new treatment plants, and actions to recover the ecosystems.
