Igel Ärgern — How to Play 🎲 and Why It's a Gem 💎

This week's older board game gem is Igel Ärgern, or (from my poor German translation skills) "Hedgehogs to Harass". ("Annoy" might be better, but I like alliteration.) In this simple racing game from 1990, players race hedgehogs across a multi-lane track dotted with pits. On your turn, you roll the die, optionally switch lanes, and then move any hedgehog in the matching lane — preferably one of yours forward, or one of your opponent's into a pit! This has been a popular "closer" of a game in some circles for a long time. Over the years, dozens of variants have popped up to keep this game fresh. I'll go over some of my favourites, ones that don't need extra components.
